The Big Brand Build - Home The Big Brand Build Home We did it and let's do it again! Thanks to George Fox University and Salem Academy, two dozen public and private school teachers defined their brand of teaching and created ways to bring it forward in their classrooms. The first-ever two-day event brought unanimous endorsement and recommendation from the educators there. "Not only is bringing the power of branding to the art of teaching a new concept, the possibility of doing it with a large group was uncharted," says Jan Black, facilitator and creator of the brand-build and My Brand of Teaching. Black has been helping individual teachers develop their brand for two years. The Big Brand Build was an effort to find out if it is possible to scale the experience to groups. Dr. Marie Ballance assisted Black. "I am so thrilled with the results of this event and what it can mean for teachers - and their students - everywhere." When you attend this event, you will define what you're all about as a teacher, then use it to begin building your brand of teaching, which has been shown to re-energize and add depth to even the most competent and dedicated of teachers. Specifically, you will gain: 1. An applied understanding of the value and mechanics of brand-based teaching. 2. A working version of your own brand and brand statement. 3. An early inventory of language to use immediately in your classroom and parent-teacher events. 4. A grid of your own and group ideas for brand-based classroom management and activities. 5. At least one deeply-developed idea from your grid to use immediately. WHAT IS THE EVENT SCHEDULE AND FORMAT? The two-day event is an interactive, hands-on, and highly productive experience. The mood is relaxed, fun, open-minded, and intensely focused. You'll hear laughter, aha's, some of the best idea generation and exchanges you've ever heard, and plenty of meaningful group and individual conversations. You'll also hear real stories from real teachers who are using brand-based teaching. Each day begins at 9 AM and ends at 4 PM, unless some of us want to go longer because we just can't tear ourselves away. Day 1 will get us clear about brand-based teaching and its power to transform your approach and spirit of teaching, and therefore your students' experience. You will hear stories, and ask questions of, teachers already implementing brand-based teaching. We will then move quickly to defining what you're all about as a teacher, put a working brand name to it, and consider what taglines and images might fit. Day 2 will put your conclusions from the day before into a grid of ideas to use in bringing your brand of teaching forward into classroom activities and management, as well as your communication with parents, and staff. You will select one idea from your grid and work alone or with others to develop it more deeply and prepare it for immediate use. WHAT'S INCLUDED? Two full days of content and brand-building. Brand-building materials. Two follow-up group coaching calls. WHO IS LEADING THIS EVENT? JAN BLACK is both creator of Your Brand of Teaching and presenter at this event. Jan has led a two-year pilot project at Salem Academy that has blended the art of teaching with the power of branding. The outstanding results motivated the funders and host of the pilot project - George Fox University's Christian School Leadership Program, the Murdock Foundation, and Salem Academy, to ask Jan to create this first-ever brand-building event for other educators in both public and private school teachers. Jan, remembered for her standing-room only educational workshops "back in the day," returns to education after a successful writing and consulting career focused on brand and personal development. Her motto, "Let yourself happen," reveals Jan's own personal and professional passion for knowing and living from the center of who you are. Learn more about Jan's work. "Jan Black is a rock star. I don't know how else to adequately say it! We were breaking serious ground on our first meeting. I am a more confident teacher and new Administrator because of my experience with her...the world would be better if every person could meet with Jan Black." - REBECCA VAN DYK, former first grade teacher and newly-appointed Elementary School Assistant Principal who knows her brand of teaching - and leading. FROM HOST AND SPONSOR DR. KEN FRIESEN, SUPERINTENDENT, SALEM ACADEMY: "We are pleased to have hosted this event at Salem Academy, and are thrilled to have Jan Black as our presenter. Jan is incredibly gifted at being able to draw people's core brilliance out of them and open their eyes to wonderful truths about themselves that they have either never been aware of or have been inhibited in releasing. This was an incredible opportunity for the teachers there. Don't miss the next one!" FROM SPONSOR GARY KILBURG, CO-DIRECTOR, CHRISTIAN SCHOOL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, GEORGE FOX UNIVERSITY:"This was a wonderful opportunity for teachers to examine their professional practices in the classroom and discover the energy that 'My Brand of Teaching' can provide in a nurturing and caring environment."
